What do you love about doing hair and why?
I love being creative and working with clients to make their style ideas a reality. I get to spend time with the rad people in my chair and every day is different.

What's your secret weapon for great hair?
A good consultation goes a long way. And hair spray!

What are your style influences?
I’m influenced by 80s and 90s everything – the styles from those eras never fail. Surf and skate culture is also big for me. And I’m always keeping an eye out for new sources of style inspiration.

What inspires you as a hairstylist?
I love the creativity I get to explore as a stylist. I’m inspired by my clients’ personal style as well as music and styles from old movies.

What’s your approach with new clients?
My main goal when working with a new client is helping them feel comfortable so that they can be open and honest about the look they hope to achieve. I want my clients to have fun and feel empowered to be themselves when they’re in my chair. A thorough consultation is key – I want to be sure that we understand each other and agree on a plan forward.

What’s the best hair advice you’ve been given?
Life is short so enjoy yourself. Wise words from my dad that apply to all sorts of situations.

What inspired you to become a hairstylist?
I wanted to learn a trade that would give me a creative outlet and let me work in a funenvironment.

Tell us about your education and professional experience.
Before becoming a hairstylist, I got a BA in science and specialized in maritime studies and biology. I’m SCUBA certified and used to tag sharks for population research. Eventually it was time for a change so I enrolled at the Aveda Institute in Portland and got my license to do fair in 2011. While I was at Aveda, I was one of ten students chosen to style models for the grand opening of the Aveda School in Vancouver, WA.

Life/interests outside of VAIN?
My son Oliver is the love of my life – everything I do is for him. My fiancé Tony is a snowboarder and skateboarder, so he gets us out to the mountain to enjoy all those cold sports. I love swimming, diving, surfing, music, movies…but at the end of the day, it’s all about my family.
